Bringing ‘The Sexy’ Back

I just read about this salon offering sort of a ladies makeover night with pampering, making of burlesque feather hair accessories (aka facinators) and having a little wine and learning some dance moves.

Read the article here.

I really appreciate what these women talked about in terms of giving women of all kinds a place where they could get together and celebrate their femininity. They have the sameĀ  notion of empowerment that I think is characteristic of the Goddess dances and contemporary exotic dance in general.

I also couldn’t help but notice the reference to hooping.

See what I mean about contemporary exotic dance? This stuff is all totally related!

Women want to be able to play and explore and bring together the old fashioned fun of theatricality, dance, beauty and ultimately feel good about themselves.

It really is about giving ourselves permission to play and to feel sexy. I know I’d like to see more of this kind of thing, and I’d welcome this kind of salon in my own town.

Did I mention… I am actually a hairstylist too!
