Gothic Burlesque -The Hubba Hubba Revue

“The Hubba Hubba Revue…has quickly become one of the most highly acclaimed variety shows in the country” — SAN FRANCISCO BAY GUARDIAN

My boyfriend declined my invitation to join us girlies going to the Goth themed burlesque at The Hubba Hubba Revue.

He said he was kind of tired.

I blinked… uncomprehending.

“Gorgeous goth girls taking their clothes off to music you love – are you fuckin’ crazy?!”

(Well six years with me – poor boy is jaded!)

It was a fabulous show.

Ever single performer was really great. (Well, OK there was one particular performer who underwhelmed me, but only one….out of like a dozen acts!)

My local favorite Burly Girls, Madamn Chartreuse and Miss Balla Fiya, AKA The Sin Sisters, brought on a seriously fierce performance to “Nothing’s Shocking”, by one of my all time favorite bands from my LA years, Jane’s Addiction.

A killer performance with a musical choice  contrasting nicely against a safer, more traditional “Goth” selection- nailed it for me.

Yeah, they got ‘kick-ass’ style!

What a thrill to watch their whips a crackin’ and tearing each others shirts off to the refrain “sex is violent, sex is violence”.

[Sigh] You had to be there.

Another stand out, and completely different, was Dorian Faust. I’ve picked her out as a favorite before and I need to see more of this woman.

Her performance was a beautiful combination of understatement and subtly, but still summoning up that compelling diva quality.

Really exquisite!

Can’t wait for the next show!
