Lilith Reviews: Strip to It- Core Moves & Fantasies

Strip To It: Core Moves & Fantasies DVD

I think this is billed as a workout DVD but I’d put this into strictly instructional as I don’t think it’s a workout DVD at all.

Dance teacher Angi Carlston teaches 22 basic stripper moves plus some additional tips and features. It’s taught with clear instruction in a typical, step-by-step format and Angi covers all the basic moves you’d see in any strip club. It’s set to original music and is well organized and filmed.

I love the names she gives to some of these moves, like “Rising Athena” or “the Caterpillar”. They’re appropriate given the movements but I do have to say they are reference only. All these moves are well codified stripper moves, but nobody in the world of real stripping has ever uses any names for any moves!

Ms. Carlston also has two backup student/dancers and it’s helpful in that you’ll see a move from several angles so you really know how each dance movement is executed and how it will look to an audience. There’s also a couple different music and video performances by each dancer that you can watch or dance along to that can help inspire you as you develop your own routine.

One of the things that I thought was a great idea was the themed selections you could choose from so that you can do a dance routine for your partner with your TV screen and the music and light show going on behind you.

There’s a couple different themes, like Naughty Nurse and Schoolgirl, complete with the kind of voice over you’d get from a DJ at a real club who’d introduce your routine.

That, and the light show behind you, helps make this a more unique and useful DVD than others in terms of presenting a routine and home with a bit more pizazz.

The only caveat I would mention, is I think these things need to be taught with shoes on. On this one point, I am adamant.

Exotic dance is done, in my humble opinion, in sky high stripper heels. Period. Moving gracefully in them part of the basic skill set. So if you’re not wearing footwear, you’re not a stripper. (Kind of like ballet- if you’re not on pointe, it’s just not quite ballet!)

Overall, however, Strip To It is better than many of the other DVDs out there in this genre. At under twenty bucks on Amazon you could do worse.
